model of Herod's Temple

We went to the Israel Museum in the afternoon so we could see the Dead Sea scrolls on exhibit.  Quite impressive to know that the book of Isaiah was in its complete form found in the pottery by the two Bedouin boys in the caves of Qumran.  Also quite humbling to heed the words of Isaiah with regard to where we are in the prophetic time clock. (no pictures allowed.......darn)

As well, at the Israel Museum, they have an outdoor display of a replica of the Old City of Jerusalem 2000 years ago.  Much of it is speculative but quite a bit is based on archeological discoveries.  We were under the western wall yesterday in a tour that included some interesting dimensional information.  The Dome of the Rock that we all see sitting on the Temple mount is less than half the height of Herod's Temple.  Can you imagine that?

We're going to the Mount of Olives on Sabbath and I'll make sure and point out the view from the rest of Jerusalem toward the Temple mount.  The Dome of the Rock sits impressively above the landscape now.  However, just to think that the Temple of YHVH was over twice its size, is mind boggling.  Everyone would see the Temple.  Everyone would view the place where YHVH placed His name from miles away.  Everyone would know that Israel's God was unique and declared as the one and only true God who came down to earth to meet with His people!

  1. Wow!! Thats the coolest thing! Both the dead sea scrolls and the model. Way more impressive than I would've imagined.
