On our first day of touring the West Bank, remember we went to Bethlehem? Well our tour guide just happens to know the Kando family. He took us to their antique shop where we heard, first hand from the grandson, Rimon Kando, about his grandfather's find.
A couple of Bedouin boys found the Dead Sea scrolls in a cave in Qumran and knowing only that they were leather pieces, came to Mr. Kando, a cobbler, to have some shoes made. Mr. Kando, seeing the ancient script on the leather, asked the boys where they found such a thing. You know the rest of the story.
Imagine our delight to see the area where all of this took place and meet the family who had such an integral part of our history.
