David's tower

This is the view from the moment we entered the Jaffa Gate.  David's tower and citadel.  However, the only part of this fortress that has a chance of being from David's day, is the lowest level in the pictures below.  Excavation has uncovered the street and "mikvah"  (cleansing baths) level.  Anything  above that is from later empires.  Remember Jerusalem was seized and destroyed 2 times after David.  Leaving the rubble and dirt, winds carrying sand, all piling on top makes the current day elevation much higher than in David's day.  We did go inside this monstrous fortress but pictures are not uploaded yet.  It was incredible!
